Note | A statement has not been obtained from Sub-Working Group Participant Members to the effect that Essential Intellectual Property Rights are licensed under reasonable (or free) and nondiscriminatory terms. This is because it is believed that no Intellectual Property Rights will be infringed by the use of CIPA Standards upon the addition/modification of Mandatory Provisions pursuant to the revision of CIPA Standards on this occasion. However, neither CIPA nor any of its members shall warrant that Essential Intellectual Property Rights are not included in these CIPA Standards, and shall take any responsibility even if the CIPA Standards do include Essential Intellectual Property Rights. [Application Policy] This standard has been established to help to avoid consumer confusion by standardizing the method of presenting the resolution of each type of digital camera in future catalogs, operation manuals, etc. CIPA will recommend its own members as well as worldwide manufacturers and sellers of digital cameras to employ this standard. This standard is not enforceable but observation of the following rules when presenting the camera resolution in catalogs is advised. (1) For new products released onto the market after the publication date of this standard, it is practicable that the relevant articles of this standard be presented in catalogs and operation manuals, etc. (2) For all new products released onto the market six months after the publication date of this standard, the aim is to have the relevant articles of this standard presented in catalogs and operation manuals, etc. Provided, however, that this standard does not apply any restrictions to the products currently being manufactured or sold in the market. JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association) manages the standards, while CIPA discusses technology and promotes the standards.
*CIPA and JEITA have jointly established and managed these standards since 2009.
