We confirmed that the import tariff on Digital Cameras has been eliminated in line with the decree (No.019/PMK.011/2009)issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Finance on February 13, 2009.
The issue obviously breaching the ITA (Information Technology Agreement) came out in February 2004. Our original goal was at last achieved after spending almost 5 years for various lobbying activities to the authorities in Japan and Indonesia.
From the beginning of the dialogue between two authorities, we had made strong request for the immediate elimination of the import tariff on Digital Cameras. As a result of long-lasted dialogues, we were obliged to accept the option that the import tariff shall be actually eliminated by the gradual decrease by 5% for 3 years (i.e. 2007: 10%, 2008: 5%, 2009: 0%), which was the outcome of the consensus reached by the Ministers in both countries.
However, contrary to the consensus, 10% of the import tariff had been applied for the first half of 2008. This was because we had to submit our petition very ofter for requesting immediate correction to the authority. |
